Our Class 12 pupils have continued their exploration of our local area. Having produced a local map showing areas of interest close to Turney School, we have been visiting various places in our locality. The Brockwell Park allotments and greenhouse was our chosen destination this week.
Our pupils walked to the allotments, taking in the wonderful London skyline that we can see from the top of Brockwell Park. We were very kindly met by our host, Diane, who volunteered an afternoon of her time to spend with our pupils.
Our main task for the afternoon was to plant some seeds. We learnt about why it is important to plant in a clean container, as well as which time of year plants and vegetables like to grow. Class 12 potted a collection of peas, kale and marigolds within the greenhouse.
We then inspected the rest of the greenhouse, as well as having a look around the wonderful community allotment. We are planning a return to the greenhouse before the end of the spring term. We will be able to have a progress check on the seeds that we have planted.
You can watch a short video of the Class 12 afternoon out at the Brockwell allotments above.
