Silver Class Literacy

Silver Class

Silver Class have been working on their literacy work since the Easter break. We have set the target of improving our phonetics before the end of the school year. Silver Class have been singing the alphabet song to help us with this work, remembering all of the letters from A-Z in the correct sequence.

Our phonetics work is also being supported with the reading of the current Silver Class book, The Bear Hunt. This is a great book to help us with our phonic sounds. We get to remember all of the different animals and the sounds in their names. The book also has many actions, such as over or under. We have produced some written work around this, and then pointed out the phonic sounds that we can hear.

Orange Class Assembly

Orange Class

Orange Class had great fun preparing and presenting our recent school assembly. As part of our current class transport theme, we sang one of our favourite Orange Class songs, The Wheels on the Bus. During the assembly we asked our friends from other classes in the school who they thought some of the other passengers on the bus might be. We then asked them what activities they were doing – the babies were crying and the Mums were chattering! Back in our classroom and Orange Class have produced a display to help us remember our special assembly.

Blue Class Singing

Blue Class

We are all incredibly excited about the introduction of a new school song for all within the Turney community. We introduced this to Blue Class during their weekly singing assembly. This has been specially written by our music staff at the school. We will be singing this throughout Turney, from our Early Years classes through to Key Stage 4. The song is very positive and uplifting. It celebrates all that is great at Turney School and our many achievements and ambitions.

The full Lyrics are:

We are the children of Turney School
We take pride in the things we do
Learning together and having fun
Who is for a great day, everyone!

Give all that you’ve got
Because you’ve really got a lot
Give it heart, give it mind
Don’t stop!

Class 1M Phonics

Class 1M

We have been continuing with our work to sequence words and symbols in Class 1M. The pupils been working with phonics to help us with our work. Using the class whiteboard, we were shown a sequence of words such as crab, tent and wag. We then asked the pupils to find sounds such as A, T or B. This activity also helps us with our letter recognition as we develop our vocabulary.

Class 1G P.E. Video

We have been working hard during our P.E. sessions in Class 1G to understand instructions and remember sequences. We asked the pupils to complete the task of placing the beanbags in the bucket, starting with the closest first, and then working towards the beanbag that was the furthest away. We slowly removed adult support from this activity, until each pupil was able to carry out the activity independently. We then encouraged the pupils to focus on improving their speed and skill to complete the task. We were pleased to find that all pupils were able to remember the correct sequence independently, as well as competing in a friendly race with other class members.

Class 2S Music Video

Class 2S are continuing to learn about the history of music during our weekly sessions with the Turney School keyboards. We have been looking at a musical timeline, starting off with the first instance of music being written down, and finishing in modern times with the wide use of mp3 players.

Our current focus is on the Baroque period. Class 2S listened to various pieces of Baroque music and then explained what they could hear. We noticed that the music follows a pattern, going from high, to low, to high and then back down to low again.

Working with the Turney School keyboards, the pupils then started to learn some simple Baroque sequences. We. Have been playing Bach’s Toccata and Fuge. This was our first session working with Baroque music. As you can see from the video above, Class 2S have produced some positive results.

Class 3J Athletics Video

With summer and the Olympics fast approaching, our attention in Class 3J has turned towards athletics. We have been using our lessons to practice different skills and activities that can help us with our coordination. The beanbag race is a current favourite in Class 3J!

We have asked the pupils to focus on the rules of the race, as well as to think about the sequence of events that we need to carry out in order to complete the task. We are all also remembering to shake hands at the end of the activity as well. As you can see from the short video above, there has also been great support from our class friends watching the races.

Class 11 GCSE Artwork

Class 11

Our Class 11 pupils have been working hard towards their GCSE qualification in Art. Some pupils have started to work on their assessed work under exam conditions. Other pupils are continuing with their coursework. One of the themes for the qualification this year is to look at established pieces of art, and then to add a personal interpretation using different multi-media. We have been looking at the value that adding 3D elements to our work can add.
