We have learning how to play the djembe drum during our music sessions in Class 1M. This is an African instrument that can produce some powerful rhythms when played together as a group. We started off our session by asking Class 1M to think about playing very softly, and then very loudly. This would serve us well for the rest of the lesson.
We then built this exercise into one of our favourite African songs, The Lion Sleeps Tonight. The pupils vary the volume of the djembe playing to fit in with the style of the lyrics. You can listen to this being performed in the podcast below.
