The Turney School Leaver’s Assembly is always one of the most emotional moments in the school calendar. Our fond farewell to our 2012 Leaver’s was no exception.
This is a both a joyful and sad time in the Turney School Year. We get to celebrate all of the achievements and friendships that have built up over the years, but we are always sorry to see our pupils move on.
Some of our departing Class 11 pupils have been part of the Turney School community since Early Years and Reception. We have many memories to share, both funny and inspiring. It was great to see so many family and friends also being able to join in with these.
Our 2012 Leaver’s Assembly started off with an address from Mrs Adams. The moving speech reflected on how all of our departing pupils have matured considerably since first starting at Turney School. The young adults are now ready for the next stage in their continued development.
The fantastic Turney School Choir was at hand to keep all of the emotions contained! There is no greater way than keeping a smile on your face than being entertained by the singers and signers that always add some colour to these Turney School occasions.
Teaching staff were then invited to speak some words of reflection, honesty and celebration about each individual pupil. There are some amazing stories and memories linked with the ten departing Year 11 pupils. Some truly moving speeches were made which we are happy to share with you below. If the moment gets all too much, then the Turney School Choir is on hand once again to spread some happiness!
We are also pleased to be ale to share a recording of the first public performance of the Turney School Drumming Group. This small collective has been meeting regularly to improve their technique and sense of rhythm. We are finding that drumming is an amazing medium in which to further communication and improve the self-confidence in some of our pupils.
And finally we then sang the Farewell Song to all classes as the Turney School 2012 Leaver’s Assembly came to close. The line lamenting “Class 11 it’s time to go..” was particularly moving.
Many, many thanks once again to all of the Year 11 Leaver’s for the memories and contributions that they have made to our school community. You will all be greatly missed in your own special way. Please don’t forget about us, and do come back and tell us about your future adventures!

The post presentation party took place in the Turney School art studio. We were incredibly proud to present a selection of the stunning artwork produced by our Year 11 students as part of their GCSE qualification.
