Turney Students Treated to Opera

All secondary school pupils at Turney School were treated to a spectacular performance of Dust Child before the half term break by the English Touring Opera company. This is a professional group of actors, singers and musicians. They very kindly put on a show as a reward for the hard work that has taken place so far this term.

This was a very special show that had been created to stimulate pupils with special learning needs. The main theme of the opera was light. The story involved finding some water to help a sick family friend. Light was needed to help guide the main characters home.

The Turney pupils were asked to play a large participation role throughout the opera. The students were able to assist one of the characters in trying to pump some water out of a large barrel. Each pupil also had a bright star to shine. These were used when the main characters became lost.

This was an incredibly successful and popular show. Our friends from the English Touring Opera company received a loud round of applause come the close. We would like to thank them for entertaining pupils and staff with such a spectacular show.

You can listen to one of the Turney student explaining a little more about the opera in the short recording below. Plus we are happy to present a picture gallery.
