The Year 11 Turney Leavers’ Fair was a wonderful occasion for our school community. We were very sad to be saying farewell to some of our students as they prepare for new learning challenges. It was decided that a Leavers’ Fair would be a great way to give the pupils the farewell they deserved.
There was also a positive fundraising side to the Fair. Each student helped to manage a stall with money being raised for the Help Nepal Appeal. This is a charity that Turney School is very supportive of. It was founded by our teacher Jodie. The charity works with Special Needs children in Nepal.
Plenty of preparation went into the Leavers’ Fair throughout the school. The Year 11 students used their lesson time across the curriculum to create items that would help to raise funds.
Cakes were baked during our food tech learning. A giant photo booth frame was created in the art studio. Numbers games have been designed as part of our maths learning.
Special End of Year books have been assembled during our humanities lessons. Each student was asked to think of some comments in which they could remember their friends with.
We were blessed with brilliant sunshine on the afternoon of the Leavers’ Fair. The Secondary School playground was taken over with colourful stalls being set up. It was wonderful to see so many parents and carers being able to come along and support the students.
We would like to thank the Year 11 students for all their hard work and the many memories that they will leave us with.
An amazing total of just over £88 was raised for the Help Nepal Appeal. This will help to bring hungry students to school, to gain an education and to allow them to be fed.
We were very proud to receive a certificate of thanks.
