Lively Singing and Signing Secondary School Assembly

Our weekly singing and signing assemblies at Turney School continue to be a brilliant way to start the new week. Each Monday morning our music teacher Miss G guides the Secondary school pupils through a selection of their favourite songs.

Any weekend tiredness is soon lost. We start with an energetic stretching session. Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes is always a good way to get our minds and bodies focussed for the music to come.

Miss G has recently introduced the pupils to a new song with Bobby McFerrin’s Don’t Worry, Be Happy being our current work in progress. A new verse is learnt each week with the words and correct Makaton signs. One of the star student signers led from the front.

Volunteers to perform the next song were then asked for. Miss G wasn’t short of enthusiastic singers when we found out that we would be leading with Twist and Shout. One of the pupils was able to identify that this is a song by the Beatles. Some brilliant singing, signing and dancing followed.

We had two birthdays to then celebrate. One of the elder students then took on the responsibility for dismissing each year group back to their classroom.
