Red Class recently had a fun session preparing a healthy fruit smoothie. We started our activity by washing our hands ahead of handling the food.
One of the aims for the session was to encourage and improve verbal communication. The pupils were encouraged to ask for the fruit or equipment that they needed for their smoothies.
Three fruits made up the main ingredients: pineapple, mango and passion fruit. Each of these had to be cut up by the class members. We also added some mint leaves. The Red Class children were asked to smell and describe these.
This was a real group effort. Once the chopping was complete, all the fruit was placed into a large mixing bowl, and then the food mixer. Class teacher Maria added some coconut milk.
We finished our food tech session with a smoothie tasting session. The Red Class verdict was “delicious!”
