As Christmas approaches, I’m sure you and possibly colleagues will be completing some of your Christmas shopping online. Turney School is registered with www.easyfundraising.org.uk, a fundraising website which donates a percentage of what you spend online through major retailers to a good cause ie Turney School!

There is no cost to the individual, the retailer simply makes a percentage donation to the cause each time you shop with them as long as you access their site through easyfundraising. All the big names such as Marks & Spencer, Waitrose and other supermarkets, clothes shops like Boden and department stores like Debenhams, House of Fraser as well as iTunes, Amazon and any other big name you can think of. There are also flight and holiday companies registered with them.

It just takes five minutes for individuals to register initially and after that they just access their online shops through the Easyfundraising site and this literally only adds an extra 20 seconds to their shopping time.

Register as a supporter – start shopping through the easyfundraising site. A small percentage of the amount you spend comes to the school.

Before it became a habit, I used the find and remind facility of easyfundraising (google it!) which once you download the tool bar, picks up the retailers website and reminds you to use easyfundraising.

You will receive an email with how much you have donated to the children and young people at Turney School once you have completed your shopping.

We are very pleased to announce details of the Turney School transition phase that will take place towards the end of the summer term as we settle all of our pupils into their new classes. Rather than wait until September for this process, we will be putting in place our teaching arrangements for the 2011 / 12 academic year from June 27th onwards. This will allow all pupils to feel comfortable in their new classroom surroundings, as well as the opportunity to develop a relationship with the adults that they will be working alongside.

Our current Class 11 and Class 12 pupils will officially be leaving Turney School on June 10th once their entry Level and GCSE exams are finished. We will of course welcome the pupils back into the school for various end of term events, the most important being the annual Leaver’s Assembly. Details will be sent home closer to the date.

Other recent news taking place around Turney School has been the building of the two sensory gardens – one for Key Stage 1 & 2, and another for Key Stage 3 & 4. These are outdoor safe and relaxed play spaces, with the aim of stimulating all pupils in a safe environment. A soft astroturf surface has been laid, and we encourage all pupils to explore the space during playtime and to interact with their friends.

Finally we would like to thank all of the Turney Pupils who took part in our charity Kick competition towards the end of the Easter Term. We are pleased to announce that £48 was raised for a children’s cancer charity. We staged various football related activities on the day, the highlight of which was the penalty taking competitions. We were especially pleased in the way in which this event has been pupil led. A selection of our pupils suggested that they wanted to raise some money for this particular charity, and then set about planning and organising the best way to achieve this. Congratulations to all of those involved.

We are incredibly proud to be able to present a picture gallery showcasing the wonderful Turney School Christmas production. Our whole school community participated in performing Children of the World towards the end of last term. This is a play with a slight twist on the traditional Christmas story, featuring many different cultures and plenty of signing! As well as celebrating Christmas, this is am amazing opportunity for all pupils to actively participate in the production. We strongly encourage all pupils to sing out the songs, as well as to sing where possible. Our play was highly interactive with co-operation across all classes. Each child represented a different country within the world.

The end result was two stunning productions – a matinee and an evening performance. The costumes were stunning, with a tremendous amount of work being carried out by all of our valued school staff. With standing room only for both performances, this was the most successful Turney School production yet. As ever, we are incredibly grateful for all parents and careers that were able to come into our school community to help support the school.
