<p>Our Class 11 pupils have been working hard towards their GCSE qualification in Art. Some pupils have started to work on their assessed work under exam conditions. Other pupils are continuing with their coursework. One of the themes for the qualification this year is to look at established pieces of art, and then to add a personal interpretation using different multi-media. We have been looking at the value that adding 3D elements to our work can add.</p>

<p>Class 11 are continuing to work towards their GCSE qualification in art. This is a challenging syllabus, with the theme focussed on &#8216;extraordinary ordinary.&#8217; we have asked the pupils to come up with their own interpretations of this topic. Many of the ideas have been to look at abstract pieces of art that we have been learning about throughout the year, and then to produce our own work based on a similar theme.</p>
<p>Pupils have been working across a variety of different medium, covering watercolours, collage and print. Each Class 11 pupil has their own aims as we produce our coursework for this very challenging qualification. We are proud to present a sampler of the work in progress in the picture gallery below.</p>

<p>Class 11 is continuing to work hard towards our GCSE Art qualification. Part of our current work is based around identity and self-portraits. We have been looking at some of the works of art created by Pablo Picasso, and in particular, what made his form of art so unique. The children have studied the use of lines in his abstract drawing, and how these add to some of the self-portraits that Picasso was producing. We have re-created some of his more famous pieces of work, and then experimented ourselves with different types of materials and textures. Some pupils used charcoal; others worked in paint or line drawing.</p>
<p>This exercise will now move on to involve creating some abstract self-portraits by our Class 11 pupils. Using the school cameras, we will take some photographs of ourselves, and then use these as the basis in which to add in more abstract ideas. <p>Class 11 have been busy preparing for a future Turney School assembly. We have decided to theme the assembly around the idea of happiness. We want to share with our friends around the school what makes each of us happy, and why this is such a great feeling to have! We have been working during our D &#038; T lessons to help produce some large letters spelling out Happiness. Each pupil has been given a letter, and then asked to think about how this can be decorated to help put across the idea of feeling happy. Bright colours and glitter have featured heavily! Our Class 11 assembly will also include plenty of singing, as well as some ideas about what it means to feel happy.</p>

<p>We are working in Class 11 towards designing and producing our own unique set of clay tiles with an individually drawn design. Our art session started by asking the pupils to try and think of a design that would be uniquely personal to them. We looked online, as well as through some magazines to try and gain some inspiration. Ideas included football club badges, our favourite food or the flag of a particular country. Each pupil then sketched out the design on a piece of paper, in preparation for producing it on a clay tile.</p>
<p>With the design complete, the next task was to role out the clay in preparation for the design. Our pupils followed the instructions carefully, and using the equipment given we were able to prepare the clay in a flat shape for our designs. The paper sketches were then carefully cut out into the clay. The next stage will be to fire these in the school kiln, and then finally add some colours to complete our work.</p>

<p>Class 11 have been creating a series of self-portraits to try and understand more about ourselves. We talked about different techniques that we could use to help us with this exercise. These included placing a cross on a sheet of paper, and then using this as a guideline when working out where to place our eyes, ears and nose etc. All of the pupils were working off a digital photo that had been taken by a friend. This has proven to be a great exercise in self-awareness, as well as producing some rather fine artwork.</p>

<p>Our new Class 11 has wasted no time in getting to grips with the ICT curriculum. We have been working incredibly hard on learning more about spreadsheets and how they can be of use to us in the world of work. The pupils have been entering different types of data, and then producing a graph out of this to help evaluate the figures that we have been working with. We paid particular attention as to how the data changes in each cell, once new numbers are added. We will continue with this work in September as Class 11 start to work towards their various entry level exams.</p>

<p>We have been greatly impressed in the way in which Class 11 are approaching their various Entry Level and GCSE exams. This can be a tricky time of the school year for our pupils. All of Class 11 have shown great maturity and interest in working to the best of their potential. Our study of Macbeth during English lessons is a great example of this. We have looked at the traditional Shakespeare text, and then compared this with a modern day BBC production. Different English exercises were then completed, depending on the level of ability of each pupil. You can listen to an overview of this fine work in the podcast below.</p>

<p>Class 11 have been working incredibly hard ahead of their various GCSE exams that will take place after the Easter break. In literacy lessons the pupils have been working independently on different exercises that suit their own targets and ambitions. Some pupils have been learning all about the life of William Shakespeare, and then writing a short biography of the playwright using <a href="http://turneyschool.co.uk/resources/">Communication in Print</a>.</p>
<p>Another group has been finding out what is meant when we talk about synonyms within literature. Using the school dictionaries, we compiled a list of synonyms for some of the more common words that we use during our written work. Poetry has also been important as we prepare for our GCSE&#8217;s. In the podcast below you can hear one of our Class 11 pupils describe in details about some of the recent literacy work, as well as reading out one of her favourite poems.</p>

<p>Class 11 have been working incredibly hard since the spring half term break on the preparation for their science entry level exam. The syllabus allows each pupil to study for a level that is suitable for his or her skills. In the video above you can watch one of our pupils explain all about her work related to plant growth. We have been identifying the different parts of a plant, learning why they are important and then labeling them.</p>

<p>Other pupils have taken a more high tech approach to science. Part of the entry-level syllabus is concerned with the digital age. Our pupils have been learning how digital technology has transformed the way we communicate, watch films or listen to music. We have been comparing old analogue technology with the type of music players that we all use today. <p>Class 11 have been working incredibly hard since the spring half term break on the preparation for their science entry level exam. The syllabus allows each pupil to study for a level that is suitable for his or her skills. In the video above you can watch one of our pupils explain all about her work related to plant growth. We have been identifying the different parts of a plant, learning why they are important and then labeling them.</p>

<p>Other pupils have taken a more high tech approach to science. Part of the entry-level syllabus is concerned with the digital age. Our pupils have been learning how digital technology has transformed the way we communicate, watch films or listen to music. We have been comparing old analogue technology with the type of music players that we all use today.
