Gold Class are producing some amazing work across the curriculum this term, in the many varied subject areas that we are teaching. Our literacy work is focussed around our class reading book of Rumple Stiltskin. We have been exploring the main character, and trying to work out what the main message and theme is within the text. We have started our World War Two topic in history. Gold Class are looking at what life was like during the Blitz for young people living in London at the time. We will be comparing their lives with that of our own.

We have started to build our very own models of the solar system during Gold Class D & T sessions, as part of our space exploration topic. Science lessons in Gold Class have continued with our study of sound and echo. We have made a basic system of communication, using a couple of old bean tins and a piece of string. The pupils have learnt how sound can travel as a series of vibrations down the piece of string. A couple of our young Gold Class scientists explain more in the podcast below.

Gold class have returned after the half term break with an incredibly busy six weeks of learning all planned out ahead! We will be working in literacy with the book Barnaby Bear Goes to Africa. We will be using this text to explore ideas of geography and travel within the book. A major focus in Gold class in the run up to Easter will be to improve our spelling levels. The children will be concentrating on their use of high frequency words. We will be sharing our reading talents with group and guided reading. We will be using this literacy knowledge to plan and write out party invitations. It’s not all about literacy though – we will be baking bread during D & T sessions, not to mention our weekly musical treat with Louie! It’s almost time for Gold class to take part in the Turney School grand performance of Little Shepherd! The big day is on 11th December, with performances at the school at 2pm and 6pm. All family and friends of Turney are of course invited to come along and help support the children.

Gold class have been getting into character for the show with their weekly rehearsal. All of the children have either a singing or speaking role. We are also trying to remember to sign the song so that the whole school community can enjoy our performance.

Gold class have been busy after the short break with their weekly music making sessions. We have been learning about percussion, and how important it is to keep a regular beat in most songs. Each child chose their own percussion instrument, and then we had a hands on practical session where we tried to keep the right rhythm for a selection of songs. History lessons in Gold Class have focussed on Ancient Greek civilisation. The children have been researching how our lives differ from those of the people living in Ancient Greek times. We have looked at the clothes worn, the food eaten by the Ancient Greeks and what type of transport was used. There is much excitement around Gold class ahead of our school assembly next week. The theme for our presentation will be the amazing animal poems that each child has written. We have thought about the actions and movements of different animals, and then composed individual poems around this.
