Class 12 have been continuing to explore our local community around us. This is a fantastic opportunity to take our young adults into their local environment to see the facilities that are nearby. It also helps with independence, as we become more confident in dealing with other people in the community.
This week, Class 12 planned a trip to Brixton Market using public transport. We needed to research first which bus and which train we needed to catch, as well as what times these departed, and how much money we would need for the journey.
When we arrived at West Dulwich station, Class 12 then found out which platform the train to Brixton was departing from. We waited for the train, and tried to pick up as much information as we could, using the many signs at the station.
Once we reached Brixton Market, the real exploration began! Each pupil had been given £1, as well as the instruction to buy an exotic piece of fruit. We wanted as many splendid fruits from around the world that we could find, to make a fruit salad to share once we were back at Turney School.
We found the Brixton Markets traders very friendly and helpful towards us, as well as giving some useful cooking tips. With the shopping complete, we headed back to Turney, and made plans to prepare our fruit salad. You can watch a video of our afternoon out above.
