Class 1M have been making some amazing improvements during recent literacy lessons. Working with the learning intention of finding the first letter of a word, we watched a simple story being narrated on the class whiteboard. Some words in the story were missing. The children were then presented with a choice of possible replacements. The narrator read out the work, and we had to listen to what sound the word started with.
The adults helped Class 1M in thinking about the sound at they can hear at the start of various words. Phonics is an incredibly important part of literacy and word formation for our pupils at Turney School. We finished off this literacy lesson by asking the pupils to find items in the whiteboard that share a similar phonetic sound at the start. We managed to locate a football, a fly and a piece of fruit.
