Orange Class Literacy Work

Orange Class have been completing many different activities based around our current class reading book of Jack and the Beanstalk. The children have been reading the story together in shared reading time. We are all now familiar with the main events that take place in the story.

Different work station tasks have been set for each Orange Class member. These are all aimed at helping to achieve the learning targets that we have for each pupil. Some of the children have been reading a Communication in Print version of Jack and the Beanstalk. One of the tasks here is to overwrite some of the key words to help improve letter formation.

Other children have been cutting out the key words in the story, and then arranging these in the correct sequence. Another favourite activity is playing Jack and the Beanstalk snap. Cards showing a character or item from the story are used. The challenge is recognise when two of the same picture cards are placed down at the same time.

Orange Class have also enjoyed plenty of the play activities based around the book. The children love playing with the green play-dough. We have asked them to use this to shape some magic beans. These are then counted to help with our number skills.

There has also been a science element to this learning. Each Orange Class member has planted their own bean. We have been taking care of these by making sure that they are regularly watered and have plenty of sunlight. The children have been observing how these have been growing.

Finally Orange Class are very proud of their Jack and the Beanstalk wall display that has been created.
