Class 9EG have been baking some incredibly tasty apple and mince pies during recent Food Tech sessions at Turney School. We have spoken in class how this is a festive food, and is ideal for eating amongst our family and friends during this time of the year.
Independence is one of the key learning intentions for the students whilst working in the Turney School kitchen. A recipe is handed out to each pupil, along with a list of the equipment and ingredients that are needed. The students are encouraged to work on their own, with adult supervision nearby if needed.
The mince pies required a pastry mix to be prepared first. The pupils then grated an apple to add to the mincemeat filling. The pastry was then rolled out, with each class member paying particular attention to the thickness of the pasty. A choice was then given as to what shape the students wanted to use to cut the pastry top.
The end result was a Turney School kitchen being filled by the sweet smell of festive mince pies, all cooked to absolute perfection. The Class 9EG pupils were able to take these home to share amongst family and friends.
