Class 9EG are coming towards the end of their pasta learning topic as part of the food tech work at Turney School. The students have been learning about how pasta is an important part of our diet as it provides carbohydrates to give us energy. Many different pasta dishes have been prepared and cooked, including spaghetti meatballs, macaroni cheese and a lasagne. The final task as part of this project was for the Class 9EG pupils to deign, and then prepare their own pasta bake.

This was a highly personal project. Each pupil was asked to think about their own taste preferences when choosing which vegetable ingredients to include in their snack. The choice of pasta was also an important decision. A variety of styles and shapes were made available. All of these food choices has to be explained first by each pupil in their own recipe sheets. The Picture Exchange Communication system was then used to ask for the ingredients from a serving counter that was set up in the food tech space.

Many different kitchen skills were needed to complete the task. Chopping, grating and boiling all formed part of the pasta bake preparation. The outcome was an incredibly healthy lunchtime snack, designed and then prepared by each pupil.
