Red Class have been combining their PSHE learning and food tech skills as we continue with our weekly trips into the local community to buy cooking ingredients. This is a fantastic opportunity for the pupils to interact in our local area, and then to work independently back at Turney School.
The preparation for the trip starts back in the classroom with a shopping list being drawn up during our guided reading time. Each class member is then given the responsibility for souring a particular ingredient.
Next up is the short walk to the local shops. Red Class recently benefitted from a road safety workshop. Some of the skills that were taught during this session are put into place as we walk to the shops.
All pupils are encouraged to interact responsibility with the shop staff. Adult supervision is always available, but the students are expected to find and pay for the ingredients themselves.
Back at Turney School and the cooking can then start. One of the most popular recent dishes was a tasty chicken wrap. The instructions are followed, step by step. The fun part is a tasting the healthy snack and sharing it with our friends.
