Early Years Children Objects of Reference Learning

All Early Years classes have started to us the Objects of Reference system to help them with the Turney School routine. This is a sensory activity that involves the children touching resources to understand what takes place next.

Each part of the daily structure has a physical object attached to a display card. Examples include a microphone for our shared singing time, or a paper plate to show that it is snack time.

Class teachers announce the start of each activity during the day. The children are then asked to touch the Object of Reference and make the connection with each activity.

This is the first stage of the children using the Picture Exchange Communication system to help with their requests. The pupils see an object and then make the connection with what is going to happen next.

Thank you to staff member Debbie for helping to make this happen.
